No fewer than 13 people lost their lives in fire outbreaks, road accidents, and incidents involving ponds and wells across Kano State in May 2026, according to the Kano State Fire Service.

The agency disclosed that it recorded 58 fire incidents during the month, alongside 80 emergency calls, which included 15 rescue operations and seven false alarm cases.

The figures were contained in the Service’s monthly operational report covering May 1 to May 31, 2026, signed by its Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.

The report stated that the Kano State Fire Service, under the leadership of its director, Alhaji Sani Anas, responded to emergencies across the state’s 44 local government areas through its 30 fire stations.

It added that while 13 lives were lost during the period under review, firefighters successfully rescued 34 persons from various emergencies.

The Service also revealed that property worth an estimated ₦144.01 million was destroyed by fire incidents, while swift interventions helped save assets valued at about ₦437.03 million.

Alhaji Anas called on residents to adopt stronger fire safety measures and exercise caution in handling fire-related activities in order to reduce the frequency of fire disasters across the state.
