The Rivers State Police Command has taken stringent action against 13 policemen for indecent dressing. According to a statement released by the Command, these officers were apprehended during patrol operations conducted by the Monitoring Unit across different areas in the state.
Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, affirmed that the arrests were part of an ongoing campaign to eliminate indecent dressing among officers in the command.
He also said that not only the arrested officers but also the heads of the Units or Divisions where these officers serve would be held vicariously liable for their subordinates’ actions. The arrested officers have been placed in detention pending further investigation.
In a related development, CP Disu addressed the tragic killing of SP Bako Angbashim, the late Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada Police Division, by suspected Iceland cult members, reportedly led by Gift David, also known as 2Baba.
During a radio programme organised by the Force Public Relations department in Abuja, Disu assured the public that the case would not be overlooked.
He expressed gratitude for the outpouring of concern from the public regarding the DPO’s killing. The Rivers police chief stated that he’s actively engaged in discussions with stakeholders in Ahoada and is committed to enhancing police-community relations.
Disu underscored his goal of ensuring that police officers exhibit friendliness and effectiveness in their duties. He said the pivotal role of collaboration and partnership between law enforcement agencies and the public, stressing the importance of trust and information-sharing.
To prepare for the upcoming Yuletide season, the Commissioner of Police outlined proactive security measures aimed at addressing potential security challenges.
He reiterated his commitment to fostering a harmonious relationship between the police force and the community, stressing the need for a collaborative effort in maintaining peace and security during the festive period.
