The Kano State Police Command said it has disrupted a planned protest and arrested 17 suspected thugs planning to stage a violent protest in the state.
Briefing newsmen in the state on Wednesday, Spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the command’s adequate security measures has been put in place to prevent any potential breakdown of law and order.
According to him, “Following credible intelligence reports of a planned violent protest by some individuals, the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has deployed personnel and assets to strategic locations within Kano Metropolis to prevent the protest and ensure public safety.
“As a result of these proactive measures, 17 suspected thugs have been arrested, and investigation is ongoing,” he stated.
He further warned all individuals and groups against engaging in any form of unlawful gathering, procession, or violence, pointing out that any of such actions will be met with swift and decisive response from the security agencies.
While urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, SP Kiyawa assured of the Command’s resolved to ensure that the perpetrators of the planned violence are brought to justice.
Meanwhile, LEADERSHIP reporter noticed a heavy security beef up around the State Road close to Gida Nassarawa where the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero resides and also around the Government House.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, a group of demonstrators were seen mobilising around Kofar Nassarawa before the police came and teargassed to disperse them.
Although the motive behind the protest could not be ascertained, security presence has been tightened in some areas of the state.
