The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old casual worker, Shuaibu Adamu, in connection with the killing of a fellow worker identified as Malam Umar at the Gombe Government House.

In a statement, Police spokesman in the State, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said the incident which occurred on Friday, December 26, 2025, within the Government House premises, involved two casual staff members.

According to the police, the Command received a distress call at about 3:50 p.m. reporting that a male adult identified as Mallam Umar, also known as “Baba Usama,” had been found unresponsive.

He explained that operatives were immediately deployed to the scene, and the victim, who was said to be a borehole operator attached to the Government House, was rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Gombe, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

Abdullahi said preliminary findings suggested the death was suspicious, prompting the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso to visit the scene where he ordered a comprehensive investigation.

The police spokesman explained that a review of CCTV footage within the Government House showed that the deceased had been assaulted shortly before his death by another casual worker, Adamu.

He said further investigation identified the suspect as Adamu, popularly known as Yaya Mama, attached to a construction company operating within the Government House.

Police said the suspect fled immediately after the incident but he was tracked and arrested later that night in a coordinated operation.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy, while the suspect remained in police custody as investigations continue.
