The Sultanate Council awarded each of the best-behaved male and female corps members in Sokoto State a set of Plasma TVs and N100,000 in cash.

Alhaji Usman Yakubu Yaro, the Sokoto State coordinator of the NYSC, who made this known yesterday in Sokoto, explained that the award was designed to encourage corps members to stay and serve diligently in the rural areas.

The palace rewarded the awardees for their conduct during their service year in the state and said the award enables other corps members still serving to be dedicated to the nation.

Also, the state‘s NYSC coordinator stated that the Sultan‘s award for the “Best Behaved Male and Female Corps Members” was geared at encouraging corps members not to be concentrated in urban areas, adding that rural dwellers need corps members‘ services more.

Usman expressed hope that corps members from the state will receive Presidential awards.

The state coordinator announced that the NYSC has partnered with some agencies to train corps members on business skills, empowering them to be productive during and after their service year.

He urged the outgoing corps members to maximise the skills they had acquired to become self-reliant. He warned that those who erred during their service year would face penalties, saying NYSC is a scheme of reward and punishment.

The coordinator also enjoined the corps members to be good ambassadors of the scheme, advising them to always be security-conscious and avoid night journeys.
