The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed that two persons have died in separate well-related incidents in Madobi and Ghari local government areas of the state.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the incidents occurred on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, and were reported to the Control Room at the agency’s headquarters.
According to the statement, the first incident happened at about 12:15 p.m. in Kwankwaso town, Madobi local government area, where a two-year-old boy, Sa’idu Ahmad, fell into a well.
The Fire Service said it received a distress call from the Deputy Director of Fire Service, Rabiu Garba Abdu, prompting the immediate deployment of a rescue team from its headquarters.
“On arrival, our men found that a two-year-old boy had fallen into a well,” the statement said. “With God’s intervention and the efforts of our rescue team, the child was successfully rescued unconscious but was later confirmed dead.”
The deceased child was subsequently handed over to the police at the Madobi Division.
The second incident occurred in Karofawa Yan Kifi village, Ghari local government area, where a 28-year-old man, Suleiman Sani, also fell into a well. Firefighters from the Ghari Fire Station were said to have responded promptly and rescued the victim unconscious.
However, the Fire Service noted that the man was later confirmed dead by his parents and his remains were handed over to the village head of Karofawa, Alhaji Musa Aliyu.
The Service said the causes of both incidents were still under investigation.
While expressing condolences to the families of the deceased, the Kano State Fire Service urged residents to take safety precautions. “Members of the public are advised to ensure that wells are properly covered to prevent such tragic occurrences,” the statement added.
