A violent conflict triggered by a dispute over a girlfriend broke out between some youths believed to be Fulanis in the Katampe area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), during the ongoing Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Counter-insurgency expert on Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, in a post via X (formerly Twitter) handle, disclosed that the incident resulted in two youth being hospitalised.

Makama, quoting eyewitnesses, said the fight took place at approximately 7:30pm and quickly escalated, causing a disturbance among the public as the warring parties freely used dangerous weapons.

“Upon receiving the distress call, police patrol teams were swiftly deployed to the scene. The situation was brought under control, and the youths involved fled into the nearby bush.

“The two injured victims, Isiaka Abubakar and Isiaka Mohammed, both males from Ruga Katampe, were rushed to Jareal Hospital in Mpape for medical attention.

“It was reported that such violent altercations have become a recurring issue on the second day of major celebrations among Fulani youths in the area,” Makama said.

He further added that the Sarkin Fulani and Ardo of the community were invited to a meeting with Fulani stakeholders on Tuesday, April 1.
