2 Police Officers Die In Kaduna Road Crash

A road accident on Friday claimed the lives of two police officers on duty at the General Hassan Usman U-turn along Ali Akilu Road in Kaduna after they were reportedly hit by a vehicle driven by a military personnel.

An eyewitness, a horticulturist working near the scene, told LEADERSHIP Weekend that the accident occurred at about 7am when the vehicle reportedly rammed into the officers while they were on duty along Ali Akilu Road.

According to the eyewitness, the impact left the officers with severe injuries, prompting passers-by and other security personnel to rush to the scene in an effort to rescue them.

The accident caused temporary traffic disruption around the axis as security operatives and emergency responders evacuated the victims and cleared the scene.

Confirming the incident, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, described it as a road accident.

“It is a case of an accident,” Hassan said.

He disclosed that the military personnel involved in the crash is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Kaduna.

The police spokesman expressed deep sympathy to the families of the deceased officers and prayed for God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Hassan added that the Kaduna State Police Command is collaborating with its sister security agencies to investigate the cause of the accident and unravel the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.

He assured that the outcome of the investigation would be made public at the conclusion of the probe.

The identities of the deceased officers were withheld as of the time of filing this report, pending notification of their families.
