Two women have been apprehended by the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Kano State over allegations of attempting to smuggle illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Goron Dutse.
A statement by the NCoS’ Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Command, Musbahu Lawan Nassarawa, on Monday, revealed that the suspects were intercepted during routine security checks at the facility on Sunday, December 21, 2025.
Nassarawa revealed that the suspects, identified as Maryam Ali and Hauwa Musa, aged between 19 and 20, are residents of Kano State.
He said both women were nabbed while trying to gain access to the custodial centre with substances suspected to be illegal drugs.
The Command stated that “preliminary investigations revealed that the suspected illicit drugs were intended for supply to inmates within the facility,” describing the act as a “serious violation of the Nigerian Correctional Service regulations.”
“The suspects have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and necessary legal action,” Nassarawa added.
He further noted that the offence is punishable under the relevant laws of Nigeria, stressing that the Service maintains a zero-tolerance against all forms of illegal activities in custodial centres.
Reaffirming its commitment to security and discipline, the NCoS said it would continue to strengthen measures aimed at preventing the introduction of prohibited items into correctional facilities.
The Command also warned members of the public to comply strictly with visitation rules, vowing that “any breach will be dealt with in accordance with the law.”
