2023: Kebbi Govt, NUJ Train 50 Journalists

Ķebbi State Ministry of Information and Culture in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has commenced the training of 50 journalists on the role of the media in the conduct of the 2023 general election.

Speaking when he declared open the one-day training workshop held at conference hall of medical health workers union at Gwadangaji secretariat in Birnin Kebbi, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu said the workshop has become necessary for journalists to be trained on how to exercise their role during the forthcoming 2023 general election.

Represented by the secretary to the state government, Alhaji Babale Umar Yauri, Governor Bagudu  also charged journalists to avoid libel, slander and other forms of defamation of character in their reportage.

He also urged them to join hands together with other stakeholders like security personnel and INEC officials to ensure peaceful and successful election in 2023 in the state.

”Your dedication and efforts have made the government organise the training workshop so as to serve as a wake-up call to your professionalism.”

“It is necessary to educate, enlighten the journalists more, so as to enable them to carry out their job effectively,” he said.

The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Information and Culture, Alhaji Garba Hamisu Zuru, said the participants were drawn from the seven chapels of the union.

He thanked the governor for approving and financing the training and also appealed to journalists to report events correctly and in accordance with the ethics and the law of the land so as to avoid being harassed by government or security personnel.
