The immediate-past Majority Leader of the House of Representatives and incumbent Member of the House representing Tudun Wada/Doguwa federal constituency of Kano State, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has claimed that the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the State won the 2023 elections through “corrupt means”.

LEADERSHIP reports that NNPP won majority votes in the February 25, 2023 presidential election and majority seats in the National Assembly elections same day. Subsequently, the party was declared winner of the March 18 governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and majority seats in the Kano State House of Assembly.

However, the State Election Petitions Tribunal upturned the electoral victory of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of NNPP in September and instead declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, as the rightful winner of the March 18 election.

Dissatisfied with the verdict, Governor Yusuf and NNPP approached the Appeal Court, which also affirmed the judgement of the Tribunal in favour of Gawuna and APC, a development that has put Kano State on the edge in the last few days.

Reacting to the development on Channels TV’s breakfast show, ‘Sunrise Daily’ on Wednesday monitored by our Correspondent, Doguwa, a chieftain of the APC, said the courts only exposed NNPP’s corruption at the 2023 elections.

He said the party was declared winner of most of the polls “because they were able to have access to the ballot papers illegally.”

Doguwa, however, did back up his claim by elaborating how NNPP illegally got access to the ballot papers during the elections.
