The Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has proposed N5 billion for the construction of a corporate headquarters building and staff accommodation for the ministry and its agencies in the 2026 budget.

According to documents sighted by LEADERSHIP, the N5 billion allocation for the headquarters project forms part of the N87, 309,964,048 allocated to the ministry and its four agencies in the 2026 Appropriation Bill.

Other capital projects listed include the expansion of the existing General Aviation Terminal (GAT) at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, at a cost of N1 billion, as well as a N4 billion refund to the Kebbi State government for the construction of the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport, Birnin Kebbi.

A further breakdown of the N87 billion budget shows that the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development was allocated N50, 646,938,934. The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) would receive N11,836,942,378, while the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, was allocated N11,281,209,862.

Also listed are the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), with an allocation of N7,244,873,309, and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), which is expected to receive N6.3 billion in the 2026 budget proposal.

The budget also provides for the construction of Hajj and cargo facilities at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos, for N300 million. Additionally, N800 million was allocated for the expansion of the GAT terminal and park at MMIA.

Other allocations include N70 million for the rehabilitation of existing aprons at Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, and N1 billion for the procurement of fire trucks for airports nationwide.

All the listed projects were marked as “ongoing” by the ministry, each with designated reference numbers.

Another major project slated for implementation in 2026 is the Aerospace University, Abuja, with a proposed allocation of N3 billion. The project had earlier received N5 billion in the 2025 budget.

The Aerospace University has been part of the federal government’s plan for the past eight years under the previous administration, during which billions of naira were reportedly expended on the project.
