2026 Budget: Gov Buni Vows Completion Of All Ongoing Projects, Initiates New Ones

The Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has restated the commitment of his administration towards completing all ongoing projects across the state while initiating new ones in the year 2026 aimed at consolidating economic growth and infrastructural transformation.

Presenting the 2026 Finance and Appropriation Bill before the Yobe State House of Assembly in Damaturu, Governor Buni said the budget was carefully designed to sustain development momentum despite global financial constraints.

The governor said his administration remained committed to ensuring that all projects started were completed in addition to initiating new ones as proposed in the budget for better Yobe.

“The 2026 budget is geared towards the completion of ongoing projects and funding of new ones.

“In light of financial constraints caused by the global economic downturn, our budget will prioritize key sectors and programmes that have direct impact on the lives of our people.”

Buni said this among others informed the decision of his administration to tag the 2026 as “Budget of Economic Growth and Infrastructural Transformation”, reflecting his administration’s determination to deliver people-oriented development across all sectors.

He said the government has proposed a total expenditure of N515.583 billion, covering capital, recurrent, overhead, and personnel costs. Out of this figure, N192.128 billion (representing 37.3%) is earmarked for recurrent expenditure, while N323.455 billion (representing 62.7%) is allocated to capital projects.

The governor further stated that the budget will be financed through receipts from the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), Aids and Grants, and the Capital Development Fund (CDF).

Buni, emphasized that the 2026 budget is a continuation of his administration’s commitment to prudent management of resources, prioritization of critical sectors, and implementation of policies that directly enhance the well-being of Yobe citizens.

He stated that the economic sector has the lion share of N245,703,454,000 representing 47.7% of the total budget followed by Social Sector which has the total amount of N200,328,762,000 representing 38,9% while administration sector came third with N63,966,986,000 representing 12.4% for both capital and recurrent expenditure.

“Government would sustain its efforts in road construction as a major factor for infrastructural development for efficient delivery of goods and services, boost agricultural development and woo both indigenous and foreign investors.

“To realize this vital objective, funds would be made available for the construction of Township roads and drainages in 6 Major Towns of Damaturu, Potiskum, Nguru, Gashua, Geidam and Buni Yadi. The Damaturu Fly Over will be completed in the first quarter of 2026.

“Government will also construct three lanes on both sides of the dual carriage road from Potiskum (Pilgrims) roundabout to the Stadium roundabout as part of the Damaturu city renewal project.”
