The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has proposed a total budget of N104.3 billion in the 2026 Appropriation Bill, with significant spending earmarked for vehicles, training and infrastructure development.

Details of the budget proposal obtained by LEADERSHIP show that the bureau plans to spend N9.07 billion on the purchase of motor vehicles to support its nationwide operations.

The NSIB also proposed N13.757 billion for the construction and equipping of the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) headquarters in Abuja, alongside N7 billion for the remodelling of the AIB Annexe building in the Federal Capital Territory.

Further breakdown of the proposal shows that the bureau budgeted N5.736 billion for travelling and transport, while N12.68 billion is allocated for local and international training programmes aimed at strengthening technical capacity.

As the agency responsible for investigating accidents across the road, air, rail and maritime sectors, the NSIB outlined detailed travel and training costs for 2026. These include N2.77 billion for local travel and transport, N2.789 billion for international travel and transport related to training, and N176.84 million for local travel and transport for training activities.

On capacity development, the bureau proposed N7.254 billion for local training and N5.43 billion for international training.

Operational expenses also feature prominently in the budget, with N389.4 million earmarked for fuelling the bureau’s vehicles and N186.88 million proposed for plant and generating sets.
