An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Jigawa State, Abdullahi Mahmood Garun Gabas, has dismissed talks of any political alliance or coalition aimed at unseating Governor Umar Namadi, declaring such moves “dead on arrival” as political permutations ahead of the 2027 general election gathered momentum.
Speaking in an interview with our correspondent, Mahmood said speculation about opposition forces coming together posed no threat to the incumbent administration in the State, insisting that there was “no vacancy” in the Jigawa State Government House.
“Any alliance or coalition against Governor Namadi is dead on arrival. There is no vacancy in Jigawa Government House. Anyone interested in governing the state should wait until 2031,” he said.
As the 2027 electioneering season approaches, political parties and actors across the country have begun to realign. In Jigawa State, opposition parties appeared unsettled, with reports suggesting that different political camps may coalesce under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to challenge the ruling party in 2027.
The political atmosphere became more charged following the recent visit of the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2023 governorship candidate, Mustapha Sule Lamido, to the former Minister of Defence and ex-governor of Jigawa State, Mohammed Abubakar Badaru. The meeting fuelled rumours of a possible political understanding between the two camps ahead of 2027, amid unverified claims of differences between Badaru and the current administration.
Reacting to the developments, Mahmood said Governor Namadi’s performance has already secured him widespread public support.
“The achievements of Governor Umar Namadi alone are enough to give him an automatic second term. The people of Jigawa State have seen and witnessed the dividends of his 12-point agenda, which has improved growth and development across the state and positively impacted the lives of our citizens,” he stated.
On allegations of cracks within the APC in Jigawa, Mahmood dismissed such claims, describing them as unfounded.
“Governor Umar Namadi is the leader and number one member of the APC in Jigawa State. Under his leadership, the party conducted one of the most peaceful and successful ward and local government congresses in the country. The APC in Jigawa is intact and in very good hands,” he said.
In his final remarks, Mahmood urged party members to remain united and focused on delivering electoral victories in 2027.
“I call on all APC members in Jigawa State to join hands and support the success of Governor Namadi’s first tenure and to work collectively to ensure victory in the 2027 elections for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umar Namadi, and all APC candidates,” he added.
