A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has declared that former minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi’s emergence as the running mate to former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, remains the best choice for the party and Nigeria.

Eze, in a statement made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt yesterday, congratulated both Atiku and Amaechi for joining forces to rescue Nigeria at this period, insisting that with the two, Aso Rock is within reach.

He berated another ADC chieftain, Barrister Kenneth Okonkwo, for criticizing the choice of the former Rivers State governor as the party’s vice presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

The ADC chieftain insisted that Okonkwo’s declaration that he would no longer support Atiku, because of his choice of Amaechi as his vice presidential candidate, was informed by the official statement from the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.

“The fact remains that it is not the choice of Amaechi as Atiku’s Vice President that made Barr. Okonkwo to launch an unsurprising attack on Atiku. He is an emerging betrayer, a man that speaks from both sides of his mouth.

“The heat is on Okonkwo because of his disparaging attack on the person and personality of Peter Obi, whom he once idolized as the best political leader in Nigeria. He is afraid of the N5billion defamation suit slammed on him by Obi,” Eze said.

He explained that apart from the fact that Amaechi, though from a section of South-South very close to the Igbos, he is married to a wonderful lady from South-East, in the person of Dame Judith Amaechi.

“According to our Igbo customs, having married an Igbo woman, Amaechi is automatically a wonderful son of South-East,” the ADC chieftain said.

He argued that Okonkwo’s attempt to cast aspersion on Atiku’s relationship with the South-East doesn’t hold water because right from the origin of Atiku’s quest for the presidency of this country, his vice presidential candidates have always been Igbos.

“Senator Ben Obi under Action Congress, Peter Obi and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa under PDP are all Igbos. Now, is Chibuike Amaechi, so Okonkwo’s argument lacks the moral rectitude and falls short of any logical thinking to stand.

“Besides, Amaechi’s credentials at the moment stands most outstanding amongst all South-South and South-East politicians.  So, his choice is the best strategy to win the 2027 general elections for ADC and Nigeria,” Eze insisted.
