2027: APC Governors, Ministers Don’t Have Tinubu At Heart, Says Party Chieftain Alwan

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alwan Hassan, has raised concerns over what he described as growing internal sabotage within the ruling party, warning that many ministers and governors do not genuinely support President Bola Tinubu but were only aligned with him because of the power he currently holds.

Hassan made the remarks on Channels TV breakfast show, ‘Sunrise Daily’, on Tuesday, where he spoke candidly about what he sees as the biggest threat to Tinubu’s political future ahead of the next general election in 2027.

According to him, the real danger facing President Tinubu’s re-election may not come from the opposition parties, but from within the ruling APC.

“A lot of ministers and governors in our party (APC) do not have President Tinubu at heart. They don’t like him for who he is; they want him for what he is,” he said.

Hassan said he was deeply worried by the conduct of some influential figures in the ruling party, noting that their actions reflect a pattern of political opportunism rather than loyalty or commitment to Tinubu’s leadership.

He argued that the president was surrounded by people who are more interested in personal gain and political advantage than in genuinely supporting his administration or ensuring his political success.

Hassan said this internal attitude is what frightens him most when he thinks about the next election, stressing that any major setback Tinubu may face could come from sabotage by those closest to him.

Speaking on whether ADC was a threat to APC at the 2027 elections, Hassan said, “It is our own self and the way we treat our own people that is making me scared of the election. The sabotage will happen from within,” he said.

Drawing a parallel with the political events that led to the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, Hassan said the same warning signs were emerging within the APC.

He recalled that Jonathan’s fall was aided not just by external opposition, but also by a network of internal political actors and supporters who worked against him.

“This was the same thing that happened to Jonathan. We used a lot of Jonathan’s people to win elections against him. That is the same thing that is happening today,” he said.

Hassan maintained that a significant number of APC power brokers were following the same pattern, pretending to be loyal while quietly undermining the president’s political standing.
