A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Buba Galadima, has alleged that opposition parties could face restrictions on their political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may even prevent the ADC from campaigning.
Galadima made the remarks on Tuesday in Abuja during the ADC’s national convention, where he also launched a scathing attack on President Bola Tinubu, claiming that the president would lose re-election in 2027 under any circumstances.
“Even if there is no living human being in Nigeria and we bring a corpse in a coffin and put it against President Tinubu, I assure you that that corpse will win the election in 2027,” Galadima said.
He praised the ADC for proceeding with its convention despite what he described as “threats and intimidation,” alleging that attempts were made to disrupt the event by pressuring the venue owner.
According to him, organisers received a message in the early hours of the day that the facility booked for the convention had been cancelled after alleged threats from authorities, including the possibility of revoking the property’s certificate of occupancy.
Despite the setback, Galadima said the party resolved to go ahead with the gathering as a show of defiance.
“This is a test ground. Have we not held this convention today here? They may not even allow us to campaign in Nigeria,” he warned.
The opposition figure further accused the APC-led government of attempting to weaken multiple opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and the Labour Party.
He urged political actors and supporters to resist what he termed efforts to dictate opposition politics in the country, emphasizing resilience and courage as key to defeating the ruling party in the next election cycle.
“Any attempt to intimidate or to frustrate us, we must stand and say no. It is only our resilience, boldness, and courage that will deliver us,” he said.
