The All Progressives Congress (APC) has vowed to defend the record of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration with facts and evidence of progress as the party prepares for the 2027 presidential election.

The APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, gave the assurance on Wednesday during his welcoming address at the inauguration of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa , Abuja .

He said the party would present its achievements, explain its policies and acknowledge the challenges facing the country while making its case for Tinubu’s re-election.

According to him, the administration has pursued major economic reforms aimed at addressing longstanding structural challenges and laying a stronger foundation for sustainable growth.

Yilwatda said the party must communicate the objectives of the reforms, the progress recorded so far and the work that remains to be done.

He also highlighted infrastructure development, including roads, power projects, gas projects, railways, ports, agricultural infrastructure and digital connectivity, as areas the party must explain to Nigerians ahead of the election.

“Our responsibility is to explain clearly what has been completed, what is progressing and what remains to be done. We must show Nigerians how these investments and reforms can translate into practical improvements in their daily lives,” he said.

He described these issues as central to the party’s campaign, stressing the need for a clear account of its record, an honest assessment of existing challenges and a credible vision for the country’s future.

Yilwatda said the party would seek Nigerians’ support for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 because it believes the administration’s reform agenda and development priorities deserve continued consideration and an opportunity to deliver further results.

He charged members of the Presidential Campaign Council, governors, legislators, party leaders and campaign officials to work together to ensure that the party’s message reaches communities across the country.

He said the effectiveness of the campaign would depend on coordination among the party’s national leadership, state chapters, local government structures and ward members.

The APC chairman also emphasised the importance of engaging citizens on issues affecting their daily lives, including the cost of living, security, employment, education, healthcare, agricultural productivity and economic opportunities.

He said the party must explain how the administration intends to address these concerns while listening to the expectations of Nigerians.

Addressing party members, Yilwatda urged them to approach the assignment with confidence and a shared sense of responsibility, adding that confidence should not lead to complacency.

He also called for meaningful participation by women, youths and persons with disabilities in the party’s activities and campaign structures.

According to him, women’s contributions to party organisation, community mobilisation and national development must be reflected in meaningful participation and leadership.

He described the creativity, innovation, digital skills and aspirations of young people as essential to the party’s future, while reaffirming the need for accessible and inclusive campaign activities for persons with disabilities.

On the opposition, Yilwatda acknowledged its legitimate role in Nigeria’s democracy and called for a peaceful contest based on ideas, records and policies.

“To our colleagues in the opposition, we recognise your legitimate role in our democracy. Let the coming election be a contest of ideas, records and policies, conducted peacefully and with respect for the Nigerian people,” he said.

He added that the APC would present its case with confidence, defend its record with facts and trust Nigerians to make their choice through a credible democratic process.
