The debate over zoning of National Assembly seats in Taraba Central Senatorial District has continued to gain momentum, as stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress (APC) are intensifying calls for fairness, justice and equitable representation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Leaders and party faithful from Bali Local Government Area in the Central District have urged the APC to adopt a balanced approach in allocating its tickets for the Senate and House of Representatives seats.
They warned that, concentrating both positions in one local government area could undermine inclusiveness and party cohesion.
The spokesperson of the group, Mallam Tanko Dauda, made the protest while briefing newsmen on the level of marginalisation on the people of Bali.
According to him, equity demands a redistribution of opportunities within the Bali/Gassol Federal Constituency, and proposed that the House of Representatives seat be ceded to Bali local government, while Gassol retains the Senate position.
He noted the current situation where both the senator representing Taraba Central and the member representing Bali/Gassol Federal Constituency hail from Gassol, runs contrary to long-standing political practice in the zone.
“Since 1999, there has been an unwritten understanding to ensure balance in the distribution of elective positions.
“Upholding that principle is critical to sustaining unity, fairness and a sense of belonging among all segments of the constituency,” Dauda said.
He argued that, equitable zoning would not only address concerns of marginalization, but will also strengthen the APC’s electoral prospects by fostering broader support across the constituency.
The group’s spokesman further identified former House of Representatives member, Hon. Garba Garba Chede, as a viable contender for the seat, saying his track record and acceptance across both Bali and Gassol local governments is commendable.
