2027 Election Will Be Like WWE Fight, Tinubu Must Face Reality – Ndume

Senator representing Borno South, Mohammed Ali Ndume, has warned that the 2027 general election will be a fierce political battle, likening the contest to an epic World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) fight and urging President Bola Tinubu to confront the realities facing his administration.

Ndume made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s ‘Sunday Politics’, where he spoke on the growing momentum of opposition figures ahead of the next presidential election.

The lawmaker said while the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remained a formidable political force, it would be dangerous to underestimate potential challengers.

His comments followed speculations that key opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and Governor Seyi Makinde, could eventually form a coalition to challenge President Tinubu and the APC in 2027 election.

Reacting to the possibility of such an alliance, Ndume said he was not overly worried but cautioning against dismissing political opponents.

“The storm is coming, but I am not that worried about it. At the same time, I don’t take opponents for granted,” he said.

The Borno South senator also criticised some individuals around President Tinubu, alleging that they were not providing the president with accurate information about the country’s challenges.

According to him, leaders require honest feedback to make informed decisions and address the concerns of citizens effectively.

“I have said this several times on television. That is the mistake most of us are making, especially those around Mr President. They are having problems telling him the facts,” Ndume stated.

The former Senate Majority Leader predicted that the 2027 election would be highly competitive, describing it as an intense political struggle among contenders.

“We are going to struggle it out together. It can be hard like the WWE; it’s going to be a tough fight,” he said.

Ndume further acknowledged growing public dissatisfaction over prevailing economic and social challenges but maintained that the Tinubu administration still has an opportunity to regain public confidence.

He said many Nigerians were unhappy with current conditions but noted that decisive actions and effective governance could help improve the situation before the next election cycle.
