A group, Nigerian Media Professionals, has endorsed Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for a potential Senate bid in Kwara Central ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group made its position known at a press conference in Lagos on Wednesday, where its Chairman, Daniel Okeme, addressed journalists.

Okeme said the endorsement was based on the group’s assessment of the governor’s performance, citing developments in sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, health, education and housing.

He also said the administration had introduced policies aimed at improving working conditions and supporting economic activities in the state.

According to him, reforms carried out by the government have contributed to changes in governance and service delivery in Kwara State.

The group, however, acknowledged that the administration has faced criticism, urging stakeholders to assess its performance based on its policies and projects.

It added that AbdulRazaq possesses the experience required for legislative duties and encouraged voters in Kwara Central to consider him if he seeks the Senate seat.

The endorsement comes amid early political positioning ahead of the 2027 elections, although the governor has not publicly declared any intention to contest for the Senate.

However, opposition voices in the state are criticising the administration over issues relating to governance and project implementation, arguing that more needs to be done to address key challenges.

Some political stakeholders in Kwara Central have also maintained that the senatorial seat should remain open to broader contest, rather than early endorsements.
