2027: Group Hails Tinubu’s Record, Says Reforms Laying Foundation For Recovery

The Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative (GMI) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his third anniversary in office, describing his administration’s economic and governance reforms as bold, transformative and necessary for Nigeria’s long-term recovery despite the hardships experienced by many citizens.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Samaila Musa, the group said President Tinubu had shown uncommon courage by confronting structural challenges that previous administrations avoided, rather than pursuing policies aimed at short-term political gains.

According to the organisation, while the reforms have imposed significant sacrifices on Nigerians, they were essential to avert economic collapse and reposition the country for sustainable growth.

“Our conclusion is clear: No leader in recent history has had the courage to take on Nigeria’s toughest problems head-on like President Tinubu. He didn’t come to play politics with our future; he came to fix the country from the ground up,” Musa said.

The group acknowledged the economic difficulties many Nigerians have faced since the reforms began but maintained that the painful adjustments were unavoidable.

“We will not pretend that the journey has been easy. We fully acknowledge that some of these reforms have been very tough and hard on millions of Nigerians across the country. We have felt the weight of these changes in our homes, our businesses and our daily struggles.

“But medicine is often bitter before it heals. Going through that painful phase was necessary to save our country from total collapse and we are confident that the hardest part is finally behind us now,” the statement added.

GMI praised the Federal Government’s policy requiring value addition before the export of strategic minerals, saying the initiative would promote local processing, industrialisation and job creation.

The organisation also welcomed ongoing discussions on the establishment of state police, describing the move as a significant step towards improving community security across the country.

It further commended the administration’s infrastructure drive, highlighting projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto-Badagry Expressway and the Ibadan-Ilesha Road as strategic investments capable of improving connectivity, facilitating trade and boosting agricultural productivity.

Musa also applauded the removal of fuel subsidy and reforms in the foreign exchange market, describing them as necessary measures to stabilise the economy.

According to him, increased federal allocations to states and local governments, stronger external reserves, reforms in the mining sector, improvements in education funding, higher minimum wages and expanded recruitment into the security services are among the achievements of the Tinubu administration.

The group also lauded the government’s anti-corruption efforts, security initiatives and diplomatic engagements, saying they have helped restore Nigeria’s international standing while strengthening partnerships to combat insecurity.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown us what real leadership looks like—bold, brave and focused on the long haul. He didn’t take the easy road; he took the right road.

“We acknowledge the sacrifices everyone had to make during these tough times, but the foundations being built today will guarantee a better life for our children tomorrow. If you didn’t know how much work has been done, now you know,” Musa stated.

The Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative urged Nigerians to remain patient and continue supporting the administration, expressing confidence that the benefits of the ongoing reforms would become increasingly evident in the years ahead.
