A group, Gombe State Youth Awareness Forum, has called on Engr Aliyu Muhammad Combat to contest the 2027 governorship election.

The forum described its as the outcome of extensive consultations with youths, students, traders and community stakeholders across the state.

The chairman of the forum Abubakar Saidu Umar, said the early endorsement reflects a shift in youth participation from passive voting to agenda-setting and leadership recruitment.

According to the forum, young people are increasingly determined to influence who emerges as candidates, rather than waiting to react during election periods.

The youths, who spoke in Gombe at the weekend, decried the socio-economic situations, identifying the rising school fees at Gombe State University, unemployment and economic hardship as key issues driving their demand for a new style of leadership.

The forum argued that education affordability has become a defining political issue, noting that many families are struggling to cope with tuition costs. It said the situation underscores the need for a governor with the political will to prioritise human capital development and youth welfare.

The group highlighted leadership character as a major consideration in its political positioning.

It cited Engr. Kombat’s recent N10 million donation to victims of the Timber Market fire disaster as an example of responsive and compassionate leadership, which it said aligns with the expectations of the electorate.

According to the youths, Kombat’s experience as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Velocity Group Limited also strengthens his political appeal, as it suggests capacity for economic management and job creation—issues central to youth concerns in the state.

The Forum stressed that its engagement remains peaceful and issue-based, insisting that early mobilisation is aimed at stimulating debate and accountability rather than stirring political tension.
