Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has alleged that the federal government is working to prevent him from emerging as a candidate in the 2027 presidential election.
Obi made the claim during a 60-minute interview on Magic FM in Aba, where he described himself as the most qualified among Nigeria’s current presidential hopefuls. He further alleged that stopping his participation in the next election appears to be a top priority for the government.
“The present government is bent on making sure I am not a candidate for any party,” he said.
The former Anambra State governor also criticised the Electoral Act signed by Bola Tinubu, describing it as “shameful” for allegedly excluding forgery as an electoral offence.
“It is very shameful for Nigeria that the new Electoral Laws assented to by the President excluded forgery as a crime,” Obi stated.
He went on to stress that Nigeria’s economic and leadership challenges require someone with strong experience in business and administration, positioning himself as capable of addressing the country’s current issues.
Meanwhile, prominent figures, including Enyinnaya Abaribe, were reportedly on ground in Aba to receive Obi during his visit, which drew attention from supporters and political stakeholders.
