The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a short extension of time to enable more aspirants complete their documentation for the upload of candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The National Chairman of the party, Dr. Agbo Major, made the appeal on Wednesday during a press conference at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Major said the party had begun the process of uploading candidates for various elective positions after INEC issued it the access code required for the exercise.
“We are running against time. We have asked INEC to adjust its schedule in the interest of fairness so we can catch up and present credible candidates,” he said.
He said the commencement of the candidate upload process followed INEC’s issuance of the access code to the party, describing the development as a significant milestone after months of internal leadership crisis.
“The most outstanding of all is the uploading of the document where I am the chairman, the interim chairman of the national committee. This signals the first ground-breaking development,” he said.
Major explained that the delay was due to bureaucratic processes within INEC but noted that the commission has now aligned its actions with existing court judgments.
“We gave them the benefit of the doubt. Today they have found their foot and are working in consonance with the coordination of the courts,” he added.
He further announced that the party has restored its 2022 Constitution and manifesto and will convene an expanded National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in the coming weeks to ratify key decisions.
The NNPP chairman expressed appreciation to the party’s Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam, members of the party at home and in the diaspora, as well as the judiciary, for their support during the leadership crisis.
He also called on Nigerians to join the NNPP, describing it as a united and disciplined political party ready to provide credible leadership in the 2027 general elections.
