A former governor of Taraba State, Rev. Jolly Nyame, has declared his intention to contest the Taraba North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Nyame, who made his intention known during the Sunji Yandang Carnival in Mayo-Lope, Lau local government area, said the decision followed sustained appeals from his supporters across the northern zone of the state.
He added that, both youths, women and the elderly groups have repeatedly urged him to join the race to the National Assembly in 2027.
The former governor said the mounting pressure from the people of the zone convinced him to heed the call to serve in that capacity.
“There has been a massive flow of people to my residence, not only youths but also elders and women, urging me to contest the senatorial seat, and I have decided that I will contest,” Nyame said.
“I know there may be one or two obstacles here and there, but by the grace of God we will overcome them,” Nyame added.
The former two term governor explained that his aspiration to represent Taraba North in the Senate would build on the development initiatives he pursued during his tenure as governor of the state.
“There is nothing entirely new about what I intend to do. What I offered the people before, I will continue to offer. During my time as governor, I provided infrastructure and mentorship for young people, and if given the opportunity again, I will do even more,” he said.
The former governor also called on communities across the zone to remain united and continue to promote peaceful coexistence.
He commended the Taraba State Government for its efforts toward improving security and also acknowledged the support being provided to state governments by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Rev. Nyame further urged residents to take advantage of the improving security situation to strengthen unity and support development efforts in their communities.
