Women advocacy groups have intensified mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections with the launch of a nationwide campaign aimed at securing wider support for female candidates who secured their party tickets during the primaries.

The campaign, tagged: “Women for Women,” was formally unveiled in Kaduna at a programme focused on strengthening women’s participation in governance and political leadership.

Speaking at the event, the national president of the Women Wing of the Peace Revival and Reconciliation Foundation of Nigeria, Hajia Ramatu Tijjani, said the initiative was designed to build structured and sustained support for female candidates across party lines.

She urged women to unite and support female aspirants irrespective of political affiliation, describing their emergence from party primaries as a major step toward inclusive governance.

According to her, increased women’s representation in leadership remains essential to strengthening democratic institutions and improving governance outcomes.

“Women constitute a significant proportion of the electorate. If women unite and deliberately support one another, more female candidates will emerge victorious and contribute meaningfully to national development,” she said.

Tijjani added that the Women for Women campaign would continue nationwide mobilisation aimed at improving the electoral chances of female candidates in 2027.

She also noted that Nigeria should not lag behind global trends where women occupy top political offices, stressing that inclusive leadership strengthens governance systems.

Also speaking, the chairperson of Jam’iyyar Matan Arewa, Hajia Rabi Saulawa, expressed concern over the low number of female aspirants who secured party tickets in the recent primaries.

She called for stronger solidarity among women, arguing that coordinated political support is key to increasing female representation at all levels of government.

The women leaders further said that greater participation of women in politics would help address challenges such as poverty, unemployment and limited access to education, while strengthening democratic governance and social inclusion.

They added that sustained advocacy, voter mobilisation and institutional backing would be critical to improving women’s electoral prospects in the 2027 general elections.
