The Sokoto Youth Emancipation Front (SYEF) has criticised former Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, over comments attributed to him regarding the re-election prospects of Governor Ahmed Aliyu.
Tambuwal was reported to have stated at a recent political gathering that the incumbent governor would not secure a second term in office, a remark the group described as “misplaced and unnecessary.”
Addressing journalists in Sokoto, the group’s leader, Comrade Hamisu Sani, said political discourse should remain constructive and focused on issues rather than predictions about electoral outcomes.
“We find the comment inappropriate, particularly coming from a former governor. Public statements by political leaders should promote healthy democratic engagement, not inflame political tensions,” he said.
Sani noted that governance should be assessed based on ongoing policies and their impact on citizens, adding that residents are capable of forming their own opinions ahead of future elections.
The group highlighted developments in sectors such as water supply, housing, and workers’ welfare, stating that efforts by the current administration have been visible in these areas.
On salary payments, SYEF said regular disbursement to civil servants remains a key expectation of governance, urging continuity in policies that support workers and public service delivery.
The group further advised political actors, especially former office holders, to exercise restraint in public commentary and contribute to strengthening democratic values.
“Political leaders must be mindful of their influence and ensure their comments foster unity and informed engagement rather than division,” Sani added.
SYEF reaffirmed its call for issue-based politics as preparations gradually begin ahead of the 2027 general elections.
