The 23rd IBB International Golf and Country Club Ladies Close Golf Championship’s trophy is up for grabs as the event tees off today, October 19. 2023.No fewer than 200 amateur golfers from the prestigious IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja have registered for the 36 holes championship which was won last year by Rachael Danjuma of Nigerian Police.
The media consultant for the event, Mr Kayode Adeniyi, in a press statement, said the ceremonial tee off will be performed by the chairman of the Club’s Board of Trustees, General IBM Haruna (Rtd).
Also expected at the ceremonial tee off are Prince Seyi Lufadeju, a member of the board of trustees; Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, president, Nigeria Golf Federation; the club captain, Banjo Obaleye; former group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Andrew Yakubu as well as past captains and past lady captains of the club. According to the lady captain, Folashade Olateju, this year’s event will be competed among handicap one to fifty four under the new World Handicap System.
“This is the first time this Ladies close championship will be played under the newly introduced WHS in our Club. Gentlemen and Ladies under the Veteran category will play for one day, while the ladies handicap one to Fifty-four will be playing for two days,” she said.
The nett game competition which will be ceremonially teed off on Thursday will climax on Saturday as winners will go home with different trophies and prizes.
