250 Vulnerable Elders Receive N200,000 Each In Katsina

No fewer than 250 vulnerable elders have received N200,000 each under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Elderly Support Scheme to improve the ir welfare and living conditions.

The disbursement took place during the third edition of the scheme held at the Government House, Katsina, where the wife of the Katsina State governor, Hajiya Zulaiyat Dikko Radda,  disbursed the funds on behalf of the chairperson of the RHI, the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

According to her, the beneficiaries, all aged 65 years and above, were selected from across the state based on vulnerability and need, adding that the financial support is aimed at helping the elderly meet basic needs, particularly as the festive season approaches, and to ensure they live their later years with dignity and comfort.

The scheme forms part of the broader social investment programmes of the Renewed Hope Initiative, which has, since 2023, focused on supporting vulnerable groups, especially senior citizens who have contributed significantly to nation-building.

The ₦200,000 grant is intended to ease economic pressures and improve access to healthcare, nutrition and other essential services.

Hajiya Radda emphasized that caring for the elderly is a shared responsibility, noting that they had endured hardship to pave the way for younger generations, urging beneficiaries to make good use of the funds and encouraged families and communities to continue supporting their aged members.

The Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme is implemented nationwide, with similar disbursements taking place across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

The programme has been widely commended by beneficiaries and stakeholders as a timely intervention that promotes dignity, inclusion and renewed hope for Nigeria’s senior citizens.
