A total of 26 students sponsored by the Barau I. Jibrin Foundation have returned to Nigeria after completing their postgraduate studies in India.
The students, who specialised in Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Forensic Science, were received yesterday at the international wing of the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport by government officials, associates and family members.
At the reception for the returnees, the chief of staff to the Deputy Senate President, Prof. Mohammed Abdullah, who received them on behalf of his principal, described the development as a significant milestone in the foundation’s efforts to promote human capital development.
He said the returning students constituted the first batch of beneficiaries of the fully-funded foreign scholarship programme initiated by Senator Barau I. Jibrin.
According to him, all 26 students completed their postgraduate programmes with outstanding results and added that the initiative reflected a strong commitment to education and youth empowerment.
“This is the first batch of students sponsored to study abroad, and they have all returned after completing their programmes with excellent performance,” he said.
Abdullah explained that the beneficiaries were drawn from across Kano State, adding that the intervention was inclusive and not restricted to any particular senatorial district.
He said the scholarship covered tuition, accommodation, and monthly stipends throughout the programme.
He added that more beneficiaries of the scheme are expected to return in subsequent batches, particularly between May and June, as they conclude their studies.
