31st Convocation: FUNAAB Turns Out 122 First-Class Graduates

A total of 122 students will be graduating with a First-Class Bachelor’s Degree at the 31st Convocation ceremony of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, scheduled to be held tomorrow, Saturday.

The university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, disclosed this while addressing the media at the Press Conference held in respect of the convocation ceremony.

The VC further disclosed that another set of 1,540 students will be graduating with a Second Class Upper division, while a total of 1,705 others have bagged the Second Class Lower division out of the entire 3,574 graduating students churned out by the university for the 31st Convocation ceremony.

Applauding the University for its academic culture of excellence and expressing passionate commendation for the FUNAAB students for not being “pushovers” in their academic performance, the VC stated that the institution is a leading university not only in academics but also in research and community engagement.

Kehinde recalled that the University was rated the best University of Agriculture in Africa and the 7th in the World by the Times Higher Education World University Ranking.

This feat, the VC attributed to the hard work and resilience of both the staff and students of the university, while urging them to do more towards keeping the institution in its enviable position.

The VC further revealed that in relation to this, the management, through the approval of the University Senate, has decided to expand the academic base by introducing new programmes into the already existing ones.

These new programmes, according to him, would make the University relevant to its immediate community by offering the students a cutting-edge education in areas that are currently making waves in the global market.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that some of the programmes at the College of Physical Sciences (COLPHYS), specifically in the Department of Computer Science, would be unbundled into more relevant programmes such as System Engineering, Data Science, Cyber Security, Information Technology, and so on.
