No fewer than 34,942 vulnerable persons, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees and host communities, have benefitted from the latest humanitarian intervention carried out by the Unique Care and Support Foundation (CASFOD) across the North-East region.

The organisation said the intervention covered communities in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States, which remain among the hardest hit by insurgency and displacement in Nigeria.

The Executive Director of CASFOD, Benjamin John, disclosed this in Maiduguri during the presentation of the organisation’s 2025 annual report, where he highlighted key achievements, impact and progress recorded within the year.

John said the foundation expanded access to education by enrolling 1,498 conflict-affected children into accelerated learning programmes, while also supporting 2,015 out-of-school children through pre-enrolment initiatives.

He added that teachers and community volunteer facilitators were trained, while learning environments were improved through classroom rehabilitation, borehole installation, latrine construction and distribution of learning materials.

In the health and nutrition sector, he said CASFOD delivered life-saving interventions through large-scale malnutrition screening, treatment and referral systems.

According to him, 14,596 children were screened for acute malnutrition, while 963 children suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) received treatment through Outpatient Therapeutic Programmes (OTPs).

He also noted that caregivers benefited from Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) counselling, cooking demonstrations and micronutrient supplementation programmes aimed at improving household nutrition practices.

John said the organisation’s protection programme focused on strengthening child protection systems, promoting gender-based violence prevention and enhancing accountability to affected populations.

He further explained that CASFOD played an active role in humanitarian coordination platforms, contributing to sector planning, localisation efforts and multi-sector collaboration in the region.

Looking ahead, he said the organisation remains committed to delivering inclusive and sustainable interventions that empower women and girls, protect vulnerable populations and strengthen community resilience.

John expressed appreciation to donors, partners, government agencies and host communities for their continued support and collaboration throughout the year 2025.
