Thirty five people were yesterday confirmed dead in two auto crashes which occurred Wednesday and Thursday in Bunza-Kalgo and Jega-Koko highways in Kebbi State.
Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, Yusuf Haruna Aliyu who disclosed this to journalists at the command’s headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, said 40 people sustained injuries in the two accidents which involved 75 persons in three vehicles. He said they were taken to general hospitals in Kalgo and Jega local government areas of the state.
Commander Aliyu also said 12 persons lost their lives on Tuesday along Kalgo-Bunza road while 23 died on Wednesday along Jega-Koko highway.
He said the two accidents resulted from overloading, over-speeding and used of expired tyres.
He urged motorists particularly commercial vehicle drivers to desist from over-speeding and enhance their safety materials.
