Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule yesterday presented the staff of office to retired Justice Ahmed Ubangari-Alaku, formally installing him as the new Aren Eggon, the paramount traditional ruler of the Eggon nation in Nasarawa State.

It came about 40 years after former governor,  late Solomon Lar, honoured late Angabazo with the insignia of office in the old Plateau State.

Ubangari-Alaku ascended the stool of Aren Eggon on May 5, 2023 following Governor Sule’s approval of his selection by the kingmakers.

Speaking at the ceremony in Nassarawa Eggon, Sule urged the royal father to discharge his duties with justice, fairness and the fear of God.

“Traditional rulers remain indispensable partners in governance and community development,” Sule said, “They serve as custodians of our cultural heritage, promoters of peace and unity, as well as mediators in conflict resolution.”

The governor said his administration had integrated traditional institutions into governance through their involvement in government affairs. He added that collaboration between the government and traditional rulers had contributed to peace and stability among the state’s diverse population.

Ubangari-Alaku succeeds the late Aren Eggon, Dr. Bala Abaine-Angbazo, who died July 12, 2022. Sule said the appointment was based on the retired justice’s leadership qualities and ability to unite the people.
