About 400 Lagos residents have benefitted from a free medical outreach organised by a faith-based organisation, Kings-Word International Church, Ikeja, Lagos.
The outreach arm of the ministry recently opened its doors to the community for free medical services and provided free consultations and medical checks to about 400 persons in the Oregun area of Ikeja.
Practical care merged with a clear spiritual purpose as doctors, volunteers and church leaders worked alongside community members to provide screenings, consultations and encouragement.
According to the director of Operations for Kings-Word Ministries International, Pastor Tunde Akinyemi, the outreach was part of a wider City Rescue Mission (CRM) to meet the needs of the body, soul and spirit.
“We run feeding programmes, medical outreaches like this, scholarships and enterprise support for families who want to start businesses, as well as entrepreneurs. We start with food because it’s the basic human need, and then we address other needs like medical care, clothing, shelter and education,” Akinyemi said.
He explained that the church’s outreach is both material and spiritual, saying,’’ They support people financially and materially and they preach the Word because, “the food you give somebody will leave their system in a few days but the Word of God will remain for eternity.”
The resident Pastor, Sola Matthew Abulude, who has led the Ikeja branch for about 10 months, described the city-wide community outreach as a call to duty as commanded in the scriptures.
“Countless lives have been transformed physically and financially. Many say they haven’t seen this kind of love from a church before,” he said.
