Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has registered about 41,000 new voters in Bauchi State during the first phase of its ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
The state resident electoral commissioner (REC), Umar Ibrahim, disclosed this yesterday at an engagement with election stakeholders in Bauchi.
To him, the registration figure reflects the growing interest of citizens in participating in the democratic process, noting that the exercise is part of INEC’s preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ibrahim said the second phase of the registration has already commenced to provide another opportunity for eligible citizens, especially those who have recently attained the age of 18, to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
He urged prospective voters across the state to take advantage of the ongoing exercise, stressing that possession of a PVC remains the only requirement for participating in elections.
The REC also called on community leaders, political actors and other stakeholders to support the commission by sensitising residents on the importance of early registration.
He assured that INEC remains committed to conducting a transparent and credible voter registration process, encouraging residents to complete their registration well ahead of the 2027 polls.
