A tragic road accident on Dubai’s Emirates Road has claimed the lives of seven people and left nine others injured after a minibus crashed into a stationary truck, according to Dubai Police.

Authorities said preliminary investigations revealed that the truck had developed a technical fault and came to an abrupt stop in the middle of the highway. The minibus driver reportedly failed to maintain a safe following distance or notice the obstruction in time, resulting in a rear-end collision.

Confirming the incident, Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said the Command and Control Centre received an emergency report and immediately deployed traffic patrols and rescue teams to the scene.

“The accident resulted in seven fatalities and nine injuries, including five serious and four moderate injuries. All injured were transported to the hospital for treatment,” he said.

Following the crash, police officers secured the area, managed traffic flow, and facilitated access for emergency responders. Meanwhile, specialists from the Traffic Accident Investigation Section launched a detailed examination to establish the precise circumstances surrounding the incident.

Brigadier bin Suwaidan warned motorists against stopping in the middle of highways due to vehicle breakdowns, fuel shortages, or tyre failures, describing such situations as extremely hazardous for all road users. He urged drivers to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on journeys.

He also advised motorists whose vehicles develop faults on major roads and cannot be moved to the roadside to activate their hazard lights immediately, place a warning triangle at a safe distance, ensure the safety of passengers by moving them away from the vehicle, and contact the police without delay.
