Seven people have been killed in a fresh attack by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in Madagali local government area of Adamawa State on Tuesday night.
Police sources who pleaded for anonymity confirmed the causality figure to LEADERSHIP in Yola Wednesday.
According to a source, the insurgents overran Sheweri and Kirchinga communities, buring many houses as many residents fled into the bush for safety.
The source said the number of casualties may increase, but could not give exact figure as at the time of this report.
LEADERSHIP gathered that Commssioner of Police, Morris Dankwambo, has already arrived the area for an on-the-spot assessment of the attack.
Unconfirmed figures from residents said that no fewer than 13 persons have been killed as the result of the attack.
The attackers were said to have stormed the villages, shooting sporadically and forcing residents to flee into nearby bushes and neighbouring settlements for safety.
Sheweri and Kirchinga are located in Madagali, a frontline local government area that has repeatedly witnessed insurgent attacks due to its proximity to the Sambisa forest corridor and the Nigeria-Cameroon border.
Eyewitnesses reported that many homes were deserted as panic gripped the communities. Women, children, and the elderly were seen trekking long distances overnight to escape the violence.
Efforts by our Correspondent to speak with the military authorities proved abortive as the time of filing this report.
