A 70-years-old man, Apollos Danlami, has lost his life while one Naemiya Bature, 65 years and other people were injured in the coronation clash emanated from the Hamlet head of Sang in Bogoro local government area of Bauchi.
The Bauchi State Police command in a statement issued on Sunday confirmed the incident, saying some irate youths with different functions protested against the coronation.
In a statement signed by command’s public relations officer, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, he said the irate youths set 64 houses, three motorcycles and properties worth millions of naira ablaze during the fracas.
The police said, “On April 15, 2023 at about 7pm, the Bauchi State Police command received a distress call over ongoing skirmishes in the Bogoro area of the state. Preliminary investigation reveals that the communal clash in Sang village of Bogoro LGA emanated from the coronation of the Hamlet head of Sang.”
In a swift action, the command has deployed Police operatives comprising Tactical teams, (RRS) Rapid Response Squad and Operation Restore Peace in the area in their effort to bring the situation under control.
He said the area is relatively peaceful for now and security measures have been reinforced in and around Bogoro LGA as the safety of the citizens remains the highest priority of the command while a work round-the-clock to keep harm at bay.
Also, visibility patrol is ongoing to maintain public peace and order.
According to him, Bauchi police commissioner, CP Aminu Alhassan has directed DPO Bogoro to commence a discrete investigation in earnest to unravel the circumstances that led to this turmoil.
He said concerted efforts have been intensified in a bid to arrest the perpetrators of this dastardly act to face the full wrath of the law, “Further development will be communicated as the investigation unfolds.”
