The incident occurred during the inauguration presided over by Governor Abba Yusuf in the State Executive Council Chamber.

The arrest was announced in a statement issued by the Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on Thursday.

According to the statement, the suspects posed a significant security threat at the Government House, leading to the swift action by the Police.

The State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Usaini Gumel, warned all miscreants and their sponsors to stay away from critical government activities, emphasising that any attempt to cause a security breach would be met with severe consequences.

“Enough of clusters of ‘Yan Jagaliya’ loitering around Government House, Audu Bako Secretariat, similar offices, and disrupting governance,” he stated.

The statement highlighted that the leader of the eight thugs, who appeared unrepentant and without remorse, led his team to the venue of the ceremony. Their actions drew the attention of the crime prevention patrol team, resulting in their eventual arrest after sustained vigilance.

The suspects, identified as supporters of a politician, were accused of attempting to cause a breakdown of law and order.

“They are currently being held at the command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), where thorough investigations are underway to bring them to justice in accordance with the law,” the statement added.

CP Gumel reassured the public that the police were taking all necessary measures to strengthen security in the state.

“The action of the Kano State Police Command is to further assure members of the public that all necessary measures have been taken to prevent any act that could lead to disruptions of the peace and security in all parts of the State,” he said

Gumel reiterated the determination of the command to “ruthlessly deal with any miscreants or their sponsors under whatever guise that try to disrupt the peace.”

He expressed gratitude to the residents of Kano State for their support and cooperation and urged them to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or the State Police Command.
