A total of 82 House of Representatives aspirants are contesting for the All Progressives Congress (APC) tickets in the ongoing primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections in Benue State.
According to the list of successful aspirants released by the National Assembly Screening Committee, prominent names cleared for the exercise include Regina Akume, wife of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and member representing Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency; Solomon Wombo, representing Katsina-Ala/Ukum/Logo Federal Constituency; and Blessing Onuh, daughter of former Senate President David Mark.
The initial list contained 81 aspirants before the inclusion of Asema Achado, representing Gwer West/Gwer East Federal Constituency, bringing the total to 82.
Meanwhile, the Benue State chapter of the APC has distributed sensitive and non-sensitive materials for the conduct of the primaries at the party secretariat in Makurdi.
The exercise was supervised by the National Assembly Primary Election Committee.
Speaking during the distribution, the committee chairman, Alhaji Saidu Mahuta, assured aspirants of a transparent, free, fair, and credible process.
He charged returning officers to conduct themselves professionally to ensure acceptable outcomes across constituencies.
Benue APC chairman, Benjamin Omale, assured the committee of full cooperation from the party leadership in the state to ensure a successful exercise.
In a statement issued by the APC State Publicity Secretary, Benedict Yawe, the party urged aspirants to maintain peace and work closely with election officials, stressing the need for unity and sportsmanship before, during, and after the primaries.
Also speaking, the State Organising Secretary, James Ornguga, said the party was fully prepared for the exercise and expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to deliver credible primaries.
