‘Kupe’ by Modola and BhadBoi OML has spent four consecutive weeks at No. 1 on Nigeria’s airplay chart. The numbers behind it are hard to ignore.

Temidola Awosika Widely known as Modola is currently the most-played artist on Nigerian radio. She goes by Modola. She turned 21 last month. And the song she released on April 10 “Kupe”, featuring BhadBoi OML, has not left the top of the Nigeria Radio Airplay Chart since it got there.

Four consecutive weeks at No. 1 is not an accident. It is the result of a record that radio programmers across the country keep choosing over everything else on the shelf.

In the week of April 27, 2026, “Kupe” logged 241 spins on monitored Nigerian stations 52 more than the second-place entry, “Worship” by Asake and DJ Snake, which tallied 189. Hurricane Wisdom’s “Living Up” followed in 163. In a chart week that included Omah Lay, Adekunle Gold, Olamide, and Johnny Drille.

The one-month data sharpens the picture further. “Kupe” has surpassed 5 million streams, landed in the Top 50 on Spotify Nigeria, Top 100 on Apple Music Nigeria, Top 5 on Shazam Nigeria, and Top 50 on Boomplay Nigeria. It has accumulated 21.5 million radio impressions and figures that make it the fastest-charting single of Modola’s career. It has also crossed borders, charting at No. 5 in Rwanda, No. 8 in Tanzania, and No. 10 in Uganda.

Produced by Oodun and released through Base World Global, the song combines elements of Afropop, Techno-soukous, and Afro-fusion , a combination that sounds experimental in description but feels effortless in practice. That ease of listening may be exactly why radio keeps returning to it.

Modola’s turning point came in late 2024, when a TikTok snippet of her song “Talk” went viral and caught the attention of industry figures, eventually leading to a record deal and her debut EP “New Light” in July 2025.

“Kupe” is her first release since then. By every available metric, it is also her biggest.

According to the single statistical criterion, it became her biggest song yet.BhadBoi OML is another artist whose high profile shows in his regular collaborations with popular musicians.

The first month of “Kupe” is already a data point worth watching — not just for what it says about the song, but for what it suggests about a 21-year-old artist still in the prime chapters of her career.
