An Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo has fixed May 2nd, 2023 for ruling on an application sought by some aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party to set aside the Ward and Local Government congresses conducted by the party on April 18th and 19th, 2023.
It would be recalled that Justice Ayo Oyebiyi had earlier restrained the PDP from conducting the proposed congresses pending the determination of a suit brought before the court by eight members of the party led by Segun Odekunmi against the PDP and its Caretaker Chairman, Akindele Adekunle bordering on the suspension of some PDP members
At the resumed hearing of the case on Friday before Justice Ayo Oyebiyi, counsel to the plaintiffs, Kehinde Adesiyan, said he had filed an application seeking a reversal of all actions carried out by the PDP in contempt of the earlier Court order.
He further said that the plaintiffs attempted to participate in the congresses but were denied the opportunity due to their earlier suspension from the PDP.
But counsel to the defendants, Hashim Abioye, maintained that the suit borders on the internal affairs of the party, which the court does not have the jurisdiction to rule on and urged that the application should be thrown out.
Addressing journalists outside the court, counsel to the plaintiffs, Edmond Biri-Omoni, said contempt proceedings have commenced against the defendants.
However, the defence counsel, Hashim Abioye, insisted that the court does not have jurisdiction to entertain the matter.
