Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has made a passionate appeal to workers to collectively forgive their alleged maltreatment by previous administrations and join hands to build a better tomorrow.

He made the plea yesterday at Osogbo township stadium venue of the celebration of Workers’ Day in the state.

Adeleke noted that workers in the state passed through tough moments of agonizing hardship before his assumption of office, adding that the depth of neglect was inhuman while the maltreatment was openly anti-labour.

His words: “Yet, let us collectively forgive the past and join hands today to build tomorrow. Our task is to deploy the beauty of today to create a prosperous future.

“We cannot afford to be a hostage of the past. The darkness of the past is lightened up by the light of today. That is why my name is ‘Imole’, he posited.

He pledged his commitment to the welfare of workers as made manifest in prompt payment of salaries, commencement of payment of backlog of half salaries inherited from previous administrations and addressing contributory pension issues since he assumed office.

Adeleke said the issue of appointment of permanent secretaries is on the front burner adding that the introduction of coordinating direct was an aberration in civil service.

“On the issue of appointment of permanent secretaries, it is unfortunate that we inherited a major desecration and aberration of the public service called coordinating directors. The Head of Service shall do the needful on the matter at the appropriate time under my directive to give the public service the best among you as permanent secretaries,” he assured.
