Enugu Communities Condemn Crisis Over Outcast Status

Natives of two communities in Akpawfu Town in Nkanu East Council Area of Enugu State have raised the alarm over alleged destruction of property of those labelled as outcast by those suspected to be working for the traditional ruler of Ajame Ameze autonomous community, Igwe Christopher Nnamani.

The people accused the monarch of using his personal armed men in perpetrating the unholy act in the two communities of Ishiagu Akpawfu and Ajame Ameze autonomous communities.

They appealed to the state government and security operatives to come to their rescue.

But when contacted, Igwe Nnamani, dismissed the allegation, saying it’s a case of “kettle calling pot black”, adding that the victims were alleged criminal elements terrorising the locality, who were traced to their hideout in a forest by soldiers and police who made them face the music.

The monarch said that he knew nothing about the destruction, alleging that certain persons killed in the community were deadly kidnappers and armed robbers engaging in all manner of criminalities in the communities.

But addressing journalists, two concerned indigenes of the area, Mr Felix. Ani and Ikechukwu Udeh, in their separate comments said, “It is in the public domain that the Igwe had given those he alleged to be outcast up to December 2022 to vacate his community or face his wrath.”

Ani accused the monarch of engaging a certain outlawed group to police the localities which he later used to hunt those opposed to him.
