The Nigerian movie industry has again lost another actor, producer and director, Murphy Afolabi.
Afolabi reportedly died yesterday from a domestic accident when he slipped in his bathroom and sustained serious injuries.
Incidentally, the audacious actor who has given more than a decade and half into the movie industry, particularly the Yoruba movie theatre, passed away a few days after his 49th birthday.
The sad news of Afolabi’s death came on the heels of the death of a veteran actor, Saint Obi, whose death was announced on Saturday.
According to reports, Murphy Afolabi’s body would be taken to his hometown in Osogbo, Osun State for burial today.
It was gathered that an agreement was reached by his son, family members and some Nollywood stakeholders who visited Afolabi’s family.
His demise is still a shock to many of his colleagues as they posted different sad emojis in response to his death.
Frontline Lagos-based transport union leader and a lover of the movie industry, Musiliu Akinsanya, who is popularly known as Mc Oluomo said Murphy’s death was shocking and had given a legacy to his fans and colleagues. He wrote on his social media page, “It is with a heavy heart that I bid farewell to the talented actor, Murphy Afolabi.
“His performances on stage and screen brought joy and inspiration to many. He will be remembered for his charisma, professionalism and dedication to his craft. Rest in peace but Murphy, why your legacy will live on in the hearts of your fans and colleagues, and you will be sorely missed.”
The TAMPAN Guild of Directors (TGD) where he belonged said he was a professional and accomplished actor, saying “It’s a wrap indeed for Murphy Afolabi”.
Comedian, Jeje Wisdom Hayoumi, who is called Ogbonologbon1 said he remembered when the deceased acted in a movie, Ibosi Oru, which he watched when he was in JSS 2, He added: “Rest on Boss.” A musician, Busola Aina eulogised Afolabi and penned, “This is very bad news. He just celebrated his birthday. May his soul rest in peace. I pray that God comforts and consoles his families.”
