The Katsina State governor, Aminu Bello Masari yesterday, launched the construction of 75 new secondary schools across the 34 local government councils of the state.
The governor who has less than 14 days to the expiration of his tenure, said the 75 new schools’ construction under the Adolescent Girls Initiative and Learning Empowerment (AGILE) projects is part of his restoration agenda of providing quality education to the people of the state.
He added that the target is to construct 150 schools in the entire plan; comprising 90 Junior Secondary Schools and 60 Senior Secondary Schools across the 34 local councils of the state.
” We thanked Allah that within a period of our stewardship, we were able to develop and turn around education to the best in the history of Katsina State. We started with an assessment of infrastructures, facilities and manpower development across the state. After which we swung into action by rehabilitating and renovating main primary and secondary schools across the state to succeed in providing conducive learning environment.
“We also recruited many qualified teachers, procured and distributed teaching and learning materials to schools and colleges of the state, in addition to training and retraining teachers for both primary and secondary schools.”
Earlier, the AGILE coordinator, Mustapha Shehu explained that the initiative would reduce the distance children travel to school and assist the students in the transition process from Junior to Senior Secondary School.
