GOC Harps On Effective Training For Future Operations

General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, has emphasised on the importance of joint training as a critical ingredient to the delivery of outstanding outputs in a joint operations environment.

He stated this while declaring open the 16 Brigade training week at headquarters 16 Brigade, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

In a statement by the acting deputy director Army Public Relations Lt Col Ikedichi Iweha, the GOC further identified a comprehensive professional capacity development programme combining training, education and experience to develop an agile, adaptive and innovative force capable of winning all battles in any environment and across all domains.

He therefore charged the participants to optimize the expertise and proficiencies at their disposal during the training week, urging them to effectively utilize the time they would be spending at the training.

He added that the Division would analyze the learning outcomes achieved during the training week with the view to enhancing its training curriculum.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commander 16 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General SY Yakasai stated that the Brigade was at the forefront of bequeathing qualitative and pragmatic training to its personnel.

The Brigade Commander identified areas to be covered during the training week to include regimentation, discipline, general health and wellbeing, fire drills, road safety procedures and human rights awareness amongst others.

 

These he added would help mold well rounded, balanced and complete officers and soldiers as well as personnel of sister security agencies.

Alluding to a statement credited to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, he said, “For the Nigerian Army to be competitive in the 21st century, it must remain professional and seek to develop competencies that would make it ever ready to undertake its constitutional duties and inter agencies maneuvers creatively, innovatively and with great success.”

The commander added that the above points to the significance of providing excellent training which stands subordinates out and in better stead to deliver excellent results on the job and meet expectations as leaders. The three days’ training is expected to come to an end on 27 May 2023.

The training featured participants drawn from across sister services in Bayelsa State as well as personnel from other security agencies.
